We have had some students in rotation settings who have been not representing themselves to the standards expected of PERCOMOnline, Inc. and PERCOM EMS Medical Education Consortium students. ALL students are expected to represent themselves and the school in a professional, mature, and positive manner at all times. Students should ask where they should wait for observations where they can sit, what is expected of them and provide their objectives and expectations from the school to the preceptor. Students should interact with preceptors, staff, patients, families, observers, members of other agencies or departments, and anyone else with whom they come in contact while serving as our student in a positive, non-confrontational, and helpful manner at all times. Students should shadow the preceptor and be professionally assertive (not demanding) in requesting opportunities for patient contact or to perform skills. Students should participate in shift preparation or downtime activities such as cleaning, stocking, or other activities as allowed. Students are not allowed to take breaks without permission by the preceptor and must check in and out with the preceptor in the times allotted by the preceptor. Students are NOT allowed to nap or sleep on shift unless on a 24 hour shift with EMS. Students should plan to provide for their own drinks, snacks and meals and at no time are allowed to eat or drink site staff refreshments without permission. Students must stay for the ENTIRE scheduled shift unless otherwise authorized and cleared by the Clinical Coordinator. Students must ensure that documentation in the approved system (or paper in the event of system failure) to include evaluations of the site and preceptor evaluations of the student are complete by the end of the shift or the shift may be forfeited. Students who do not meet these and other standards outlined in the Student Handbook and/or the Clinical Manual may be disciplined up to and including expulsion from the program, depending on the circumstances of the infraction(s). Theft or improper use of site supplies or equipment, attending rotations without prior approval of our Clinical Coordinator, harassment, threats, or actions leading to potential danger to faculty, staff, preceptors, patients, bystanders, members of other agencies or departments, or violating local, state or federal law while representing this school as a student are examples of grounds for immediate dismissal from the program.
