Missouri EMT & Paramedic Training and Certification

Missouri EMT & Paramedic Certification Requirements

Before committing the time and money it takes for EMS certifications, you must be sure there is not anything in your background that may prevent you from attaining your state certification! Any criminal offenses may disqualify you, so it is best to check with the state EMS office if you have a questionable background prior to training.

The State of Missouri requires emergency medical personnel to be licensed through the Missouri Bureau of Emergency Medical Services. To qualify to submit the certification application, the applicant must have already taken and passed the National Registry (NREMT) examination. To be marked eligible to test NREMT exams, the applicant must have previously completed an approved NREMT training program, like PERCOMonline’s EMT, AEMT, and Paramedic programs.

EMS Initial certification requirements:

  • Present a valid, unrestricted NREMT certification as an EMT, AEMT, or Paramedic
  • Present a valid AHA BLS Provider certification.
  • Present a valid ACLS certification (Paramedic level)
  • Submit background check to Missouri PRIOR to submitting a certification application

Reciprocity

Some applicants may already have a license in another state but are wishing to legally work in Missouri. This applicant must go through the “reciprocity” process to attain the Missouri certification using their existing license. Refer to the EMT initial licensing info link below.

The reciprocity process is very similar to the initial certification process. Each applicant will need a valid NREMT certification and a previously completed background check with the Missouri Bureau of EMS.
